SINGULAR PARTNERSHIPS

The House Ethos

“I really enjoy pushing myself. Working with new partners and focusing on new things to learn actually help keep me and my team challenged and feeling alive. ”
Olivier Rousteing

“The learning process in a collaboration is always so intense—but, inevitably, so rewarding. I love working closely with experts in other fields, who are willing to teach me new things—something which, in the end, always returns to help strengthen the work that I do for Balmain, by inspiring me to think in entirely new ways, when I return to my clothing sketches. ”

BALMAIN x PUMA X CARA DELEVINGNE

“Relying on boxing as the metaphor for this collaboration seemed so very natural for us—it’s the perfect fit. I’m boxing at the gym every morning and Cara loves the sport, as well. But, boxing doesn’t mean just fighting against somebody else—for us, it also represents a positive, motivating force. We love it because it is a sport that teaches you to continually push yourself farther than you thought possible, while giving you the confidence to always stick up for yourself.”
Olivier Rousteing

BALMAIN x H&M

H&M and Balmain’s luxe-meets-mass collaboration played with highlights from Balmain’s first eight seasons under Olivier Rousteing’s creative leadership, creating a retrospective range that made very clear that Rousteing and his team had managed to construct a unique, recognizable Balmain DNA within a very short period of time. Long lines, excitement and a rapid sell-out of the entire collection helped prove that young lovers of fashion across the world were hungry for the historic Parisian house's new style and attitude.

BALMAIN x BARBIE

The first thing you’ll notice is all the pink. It’s everywhere. That makes perfect sense, of course –for a collaboration with Barbie, you go all-out for pink, since that color has become synonymous with the brand. So, Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing designed the collection’s palette to evolve from the softest blushes to a host of stronger tones. Much of the limited-edition collection played with new spins on familiar Balmain signatures, including the house’s iconic marinière and its mesmerizing Labyrinth pattern.

Balmain x Pokemon

Olivier Rousteing and his Balmain design team were inspired by Pokémon’s bold colors and bright iconography. Sweats, jackets and oversized tops and bottoms cleverly channeled the bold graphic treatment that one immediately recognizes as Pokémon’s — and many of the accessories were inventive hybrids of Balmain’s signature bags and Pokémon illustrations.

“Pokémon’s bright pop aesthetic and captivating creatures have always appealed to me. Today, they remind me of an earlier, simpler time, when we all shared a hopeful vision of the positive changes that we believed digital innovations were bound to make possible. And that’s why I’m so happy to partner with Pokémon on this collection—because right now, we could all use a reminder of that past moment of hope and optimism.”

Balmain x Opéra de Paris

Since “Renaissance,” Sébastien Bertaud’s 2015 ballet for the Opera of Paris, paid tribute to the elegance, sophistication and opulence of the legendary Ecole de Danse Française, a collaboration with Balmain seemed a natural fit. Olivier Rousteing’s designs highlighted both the acclaimed savoir-faire of the Balmain’s atelier and the recognizable modern style of the designer, with impressive golden and silver embellishments covering flesh-colored performance pieces and rhinestones and pearls embroidered directly onto bodysuits, tights and draped tees.

BALMAIN x BEATS

"Anyone who’s been following the story so far knows that there are two basic truths about Balmain: this house celebrates the strength and beauty inherent in diversity and we see fashion as inseparable from music. Knowing that Beats is just as dedicated to those same core values made saying ‘yes’ to our partnership a very easy decision. It’s obvious that Beats agrees that the best of music can only be paired with the best in design.”
Olivier Rousteing

BALMAIN x TRUDON

Developed by Olivier Rousteing, in partnership with Maison Robertet nose Emilie Bouge, the Balmain-Maison Trudon scented candle is an evolution of Trudon’s best-selling Ernesto candle—which makes perfect sense, since the Ernesto has long been Rousteing’s favorite. Bouge concocted an expert floral and feminine flourish for Ernesto’s masculine cedarwood, gunpower and cigar notes, relying on the mysterious and distinct touch of a black rose, in order to create the ideal olfactory reflection of Rousteing’s twenty-first century Balmain.
